Windows 98 successfully installed on iPhone 6 Plus

Windows 98 on iPhone 6 Plus
According to a post on popular tech forum bbs.feng.com, a Chinese user with the handle xyqo58775 has figured out a way to install Windows 98 on his iPhone 6 Plus, and the most interesting thing is that he seems to have managed to do it without jailbreaking his device.
It is not the first time someone has ported Windows on an iPhone. Back in 2009, some Russian hackers had managed to port Windows 95 on the iPhone 3G. However, it is the first time someone has managed to get it working on an iPhone 6 Plus, and without jailbreaking. The developer claims that he has managed to get Windows 98 running on his iPhone 6 Plus using iDos app (App Store link), an emulator that allows you to play dos games on your iPhone or iPad, and by making some modifications.
xyqo58775 also makes it clear that he is “not a big God” and has only used the existing resources and tools available out there to get Windows 98 up and running on his iPhone 6 Plus. He also states that while installing Windows XP is theoretically possible on the iPhone, the installation process will automatically exit after a certain point and there is no solution to bypass the problem for now. He plans to get Windows XP running on iPhone 6 Plus whenever he gets time.
If you know Chinese, you can find the full steps to install Windows 98 on your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus here. If not, I’d recommend you to wait until someone translates the guide in English since Google Translate does not particularly do a good job.
While there is no real world use of it, it’s cool in a wierd way to see Windows 98 running on the iPhone 6 Plus (little less weird than it running on the tiny iPhone 3G).
Check out the photos of Windows 98 on the iPhone 6 Plus:

Windows 95 Running on Hacked iPhone

Windows 95 running on iPhone 3G
Folks at Russian site GooDiPhone have demoed Windows 95 running on an iPhone 3G via an emulator.
I'm sure not many of you care but it's cool in a wierd way to see Windows 95 running on the iPhone. It seems some folks have also managed this on Nokia's N95.
Developers of iSoft team have managed to run Windows 95 on a jailbroken iPhone with the help of Bochs emulator and a standard Windows 95 image.

They have reported that it takes 5 to 10 minutes to boot Windows 95 on the iPhone.
They also plan to figure out a way to get Windows XP to run on the iPhone and also try running Windows on the faster iPhone 3GS.

Download Popular runner game Monster Dash for free [Apple's App of the Week]

Monster Dash
Halfbrick’s Monster Dash is Apple’s App of the week, which means you will be able to download the game for free. It usually costs $0.99.
This comes hot on the heels of the major update that was released for the game on Wednesday.
Monster Dash is a popular monster-slaying runner game, which is part of the legendary Barry Steakfries Trilogy along with Jetpack Joyride and Age of Zombies. Here’s a brief description of how the game works by folks at Destructoid:
Monster Dash is inventive without being overly complex, and simplistic without being remedial. The aim of the game is to run as far as you can, hitting the bottom left corner of the screen to jump and the bottom right to shoot. Barry will handle the running part himself, it’s up the player to keep him alive.
Every 1,000 miles, Barry will be transported to a new random level with its own music, scenery and themed monster. Along the way, he can hit crates that unlock new weapons with limited ammo, such as the as railgun-like Pacifier or the excellent Machine Gun Jetpack. There are also hearts that can be used to extend the life bar, or recover from damage caused by traps and monsters.

How to speed up your Mac running OS X Yosemite

MacBook Air
OS X Yosemite comes with a lot of new features, including an all new design, improved Safari, Messages and Mail app, Continuity and more. If you feel that your Mac has become slower after updating to OS X Yosemite, here are some tips to speed it up.
Disable Transparency
Just like iOS, OS X Yosemite adds transparency to window bezels, that reveal a blurred view of the content beneath the window. Now while the latest Macs pull off this effect with no performance hit, older Macs might see some slow downs. The good news is you can disable transparency:
  • Open System Preferences by clicking on the  Apple menu > System Preferences.
  • Click on Accessibility and enable the “Reduce transparency” checkbox.

Check Activity Monitor to find out apps slowing your Mac
Activity Monitor is a great tool to see how apps and processes are consuming your system resources like RAM, CPU, network etc. To open Activity Monitor, press ⌘ + Space to bring up Spotlight search, type in “Activity Monitor” and open the first result. Now see the CPU and Memory tabs to ensure that the infrequently used applications aren’t the top consumers. If so, just quit that application.

Reduce Auto start applications
There are many apps that startup when you login to your Mac. This not only slows up startup time, but could potentially continue consuming resources in the background, further deteriorating performance. You can check what opens at Login by going to System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Items. Uncheck the items that you don’t think are necessary:
Update: As pointed out in the comments, checking items just hides the app. To stop it completely, select an application in the list and click on the “-” button at the bottom. (Thanks pandacookie and Jerry!)

Restart your Mac
My MacBook goes without a proper shut down for weeks, and if I find that it becomes slow over time, I restart it, and almost always, the problem goes away. So if you feel that your Mac has become sluggish, try restarting it.
Speed Up Finder
Since a few releases, Finder now defaults to the “All My Files” window, that shows you all files on your Mac. While this might be useful, it also slows down Finder quite a bit. So you can change the default Finder window to your Home or Desktop folder.
  • Just open Finder, click on Finder > Preferences in the menu bar
  • Click on General.
  • Change the “New Finder windows show” setting to Desktop, Documents or your Home folder.
finder preferences
Clean Your Desktop
Although this isn’t likely to have a major impact on performance, but if your desktop is too cluttered with files and folders you don’t use often, try to move it from the Desktop folder to a different folder.
Free Up Disk Space
If you have less than a GB of space on your disk, it might be a good idea to clean it up, and delete files and applications you no longer need. If photos and videos are consuming a lot of space, you could move them to an external hard drive.
Clean Reinstall
If you’ve exhausted all options, then you could consider doing a clean reinstall of OS X Yosemite.
Let us know how has your experience been after updating to OS X Yosemite.
